Q&A Coding test question.

Nisha

Member
Hello,
I had a test question on outpatient coding in which the physician diagnosis was pain, wrist and the radiologist diagnosis was Colle's fracture. How do we code this?
Thank you for your help.

Nisha.

Just code the Colle's fracture. The pain is a symptom of the fracture, and we don't code symptoms when they are a part of the definitive diagnosis.

Yes, always code to the highest specificity. The radiologist dx trumps the docs.
